Planning Litter
At PaisleyPella Dalmatians we spend a lot of time picking and choosing dogs to be in our breeding program. On average it takes about 2 years to complete all the necessary requirements we have set up for our breeding program. We spend a whole year just looking for the sire and dam of our upcoming litter. The sire and dam must go through many tests in order to be apart of our program. Our dogs must pass or score good/higher on any health testing we do. We test Ears, Eyes, Hips, Patella, Heart, Thyroid and temperaments. If the dogs pass all of these tests, they will be a part of our breeding program. If not they will not be bred and will be spay/neutered as soon as possible.
The dogs that we keep are show dogs. They will be champions in Canada and/or the United States before they have damed or sired a litter. Most of the dogs we breed and show end up being Grand Champions in Canada and/or the United Sates.
The puppies we breed are registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, microchipped and have all the vaccines needed at that age. They will also have their dew claws removed to prevent injuries when they are older.

Waiting List
Before we breed our dogs, we get a waiting list for potential puppy buyers. In order to get onto the waiting list we give out a mandatory questionaire/application from. Once approved you will be placed on a wailing list, from there we do a phone interview and/or a visit to our home if that is possible. If you do not live close to us we will FaceTime etc. After the puppies are born and are old enough, we start socializing our puppies. At this time puppy buyers can come and see the puppies. We start seeing the puppies personalities and can start matching them to their forever homes.
Before the puppies go to their forever homes, they must have a test done called BEAR testing. We do this test because the spotting gene in Dalmatians cause the breed to be prone to deafness. This will test the electrical waves passing through the ear to see if the puppies can hear. Each ear is tested separately; this will tell us if the puppy is Bilateral (Fully Hearing), Unilateral (Hearing with only One ear) or Deaf (Can`t hear out of either ear). We will disclose the results of this test BEFORE the puppies leave us. Any questions or concerns with Bilateral or deaf puppies are encouraged! PaisleyPella is proud to say that we have never had a deaf puppy in our 10 years of breeding!!
When the puppies are 8 weeks old they will go to their forever homes. They will be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club and microchipped. They will also leave us with a contract, that PaisleyPella and the New puppy owners have gone over and signed together. We love to meet our puppy people before the dogs leave, so we normally ask you pick the puppy up in person. If this will not work we can figure out transportation of the puppy to its new home at the cost of the new owner. Not only do you become a new Dalmatian owner but a part of the PaisleyPella Family!
